13. Which Soap?

This sharing addresses which of our soap bars I recommend for different skin types. To start off with, let’s look at the five common skin types (above).

Which one are you?

Please be aware that our skin can and does change due to our age, our hormones, our diet (the food and liquid we consume), our stress levels, our quality of sleep, the medications and drugs we take (legal, including smoking and alcohol consumption, and illegal substances), our environment (pollution, too much sun, too little sun, cold exposure, wind exposure, chemical exposure), our clothing and household fabric choices (natural or synthetic) as well as the exercise demands, or lack of, that we place on our skin.

While our skin type can change over time, we also have different skin zones as part of our body composition. For instance, baby skin. Babies can develop a type of acne, also known as ‘milk spots’ on their face, dandruff on their head, aka ‘cradle cap’, and nappy rash on their bottoms.

To answer the question posed, I will summarise the featured ingredient/s of each of our soaps and give evidence-based recommendations.

Ingredients: virgin olive oil, goats’ milk, filtered rainwater✽✽, lye, hemp seed oil, poppy seed oil, non-GM canola seed oil, whole rolled oats✽, unrefined honey, unrefined beeswax, unsweetened full-cream dairy yoghurt, calendula flowers✽, sea salt and pure glycerine from the natural soap chemistry.

This soap bar is our most gentle. Why? It contains no concentrated essential oil, and this seems to be the single factor that causes skin irritation for some people. Personally, all of our soaps are just fine on my skin, but that doesn’t mean certain essential oils won’t affect others skin if they are particularly sensitive.

While you can check out all on the ingredients in depth in our ‘LEARN MORE ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS’ section, the other point of difference with this soap is that it contains pureed calendula petals. The key information about calendula compounds are that they assist nappy rash, dermatitis and dandruff, they heal and firm skin and that they are powerful anti-inflammatories and antimicrobials.

While it can be used by all skin types, we recommend our baby skin care soap for babies, the elderly and for people with extremely sensitive skin.

classic

Ingredients: virgin olive oil, grass fed beef tallow, goats’ milk, filtered rainwater✽✽, lye, hemp seed oil, poppy seed oil, non-GM canola seed oil, whole rolled oats✽, unrefined honey, unrefined beeswax, unsweetened full-cream dairy yoghurt, apple cider vinegar, dandelion flowers, lavender essential oil✽✽ (Lavandula angustifolia), poppy seeds, sea salt and pure glycerine from the natural soap chemistry.

Our classic skin care soap is named after the timeless scent it contains: lavender essential oil. Lavender essential oil is renowned in aromatherapy for its ability to assist with a feeling of relaxation. It also contains ground poppy seeds to give a little more natural exfoliation if you have normal, dry, combination or oily skin. We see this soap as our most versatile and most popular one.
While it can be used for most skin types, we recommend this soap if your top priority is to experience a sense of relaxation during and after bathing.

terrene

Ingredients: virgin olive oil, grass fed beef tallow, goats’ milk, filtered rainwater✽✽, lye, hemp seed oil, poppy seed oil, non-GM canola seed oil, whole rolled oats✽, unsweetened full-cream dairy yoghurt, unrefined honey, unrefined beeswax, dandelion flowers, Tasmanian blue gum essential oil (Eucalyptus globulus), apple cider vinegar, red ochre, sea salt and pure glycerine from the natural soap chemistry.
Because our terrene skin care soap contains red ochre, which has the ability to draw out skin impurities, as well as eucalyptus essential oil, with its antimicrobial and healing qualities, we recommend this soap for oily or combination skin and especially for acne sufferers. However, it can be used on most skin types.

vegan

Ingredients: virgin olive oil, filtered rainwater✽✽, avocado fruit, lye, hemp seed oil, poppy seed oil, non-GM canola seed oil, whole rolled oats✽, apple cider vinegar, bull kelp seaweed✽, dandelion flowers, rosemary essential oil✽ (Rosmarinus officinalis), sea salt, lemon juice and pure plant glycerine from the natural soap chemistry.

This is a lovely soap in its own right, as it features avocado fruit, bull kelp seaweed and rosemary essential oil to enrich, nurture and generally improve the skin.

It is claimed that rosemary essential oil fights acne, unclogs blocked pores, smooths fine lines and prevents wrinkles, tightens and tones skin and minimises large pores and helps with cellulite, eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions.
Our vegan skin care soap is recommended for people who choose not to use animal products. It can be used on most skin types.
